September Blog – Rest

Hello to all, hope we are all well and happy. Sure we are all noticing that the nights are drawing in and Autumn is definitely upon us. I am glad to back to routines as the school term start again. So I am now sending you September’s blog, our focus on the pie chart of well-being must’s is ‘Rest’.

Rest is important for many reasons, including:

  • Physical health
  • Rest helps your body recover, which can help prevent injuries and improve performance. Rest also helps your muscles repair themselves, which can help you build strength and muscle.
  • Mental health
  • Rest can help you manage stress and lower blood pressure, which can contribute to a healthier heart. Rest can also help you feel lighter and have more energy.
  • Immune system
  • Rest helps boost your immune system by allowing your body to produce proteins that fight infection and inflammation. When you’re sleep deprived, your body produces more stress hormones, which can decrease the effectiveness of your immune system.
  • Memory
  • Sleep helps consolidate memory, which can help you remember and retain information.
  • Weight loss
  • Rest can help you remain stress-free, which can boost your weight loss journey.

Please remember that mental and emotional rest is important too, sometimes you need to just take a day for yourself. Sometimes taking a day for ourselves is what we need. Additionally, rest helps manage stress levels and lowers blood pressure, contributing to a healthier heart ♥️

  • Reduce stress, improve your mood, and get along better with people.
  • Think more clearly, form long-term memories, and do better in school and at work.

So in terms of fitness and the way we workout, to achieve optimum well-being benefits, why is ‘rest’ important. Why are rest days so important?

Every time you work out you create microscopic tears in your muscle tissues. When you rest, your muscles start to heal and grow back stronger, meaning you’ll be able to do the same workout with less effort in the future. If you skip rest days, it could lead to longer spells out through injury.

How do I know I need rest?

At the same time, listening to your body can provide other helpful clues, like these:

  1. You can’t get motivated, Usually, the first sign is feeling you need more rest or are lacking your usual motivation to work out
  2. You have muscle aches that won’t quit.
  3. You can’t get a good night’s sleep.
  4. Appetite changes.

So make sure once again we have a weekly routine in place that allows you the time to work out and have a rest days, recovery is a key component. Remember physical activities/exercises and me time should mot be a chore or challenge but part of your lifestyle. So its time to make life style changes to encourage a  ‘Flow’ of offerings to our well-being to help keep ‘us’ in the best shape physically and mentally.

We work out these days, combining cardio and strength, we eat healthy foods that are not processed and within calorie intake for our body (no overeating, it’s so unnecessary) alongside rest days scheduled! ME days! Yes people you deserve those days, kick back, turn off from work, socials and completely unwind, let your mind and body do its thing! Feel the benefits of it, for sure you will.

How to feel happier everyday…

Practising positivity is about nurturing an optimistic attitude remember – embracing the present moment as if it was your last. Something i feel strongly about day in day out ,proud to say i live this way, its the only way i say. This month’s one is a fab one, its all about Exercise!

This month it’s ‘E’ E is for  Exercise  (The a-z of positivity, Anna Barnes 2023)

Exercise is the best thing you can do to bring more positivity into your life. That heady mix of neurotransmitters released during the heart pumping aerobic stage can work absolute wonders for our mental health and general well-being. When we exercise the mind releases cortisol a hormone that manages stress, sounds like a win win to me!!

Take a moment to think about the activities that induce that feeling of euphoria in you. Now try filling that in a mental or even a paper wall chart of incorporating those exercises and remember ‘rest’ days into your weekly schedule. Exercise not only changes your body. It changes your mind your attitude and your mind.

“The hardest thing about exercise is to start doing it. Once you are doing exercises regularly, the hardest thing is to stop it” (Erin Gray)

See you all in classes next week, Dance Fit and Pilates. The Walk & Tone brand has a new upcoming walks ready for Autumn into Winter. So on that note ciao for now and look forward to continuously meeting/greeting you all the classes or walks throughout the rest of the year.

Big love xx
