Pilates develops core strength. The core muscles of the body are the deep muscles of the back, abdomen, and pelvic floor. These are the muscles we rely on to support a strong, supple back, good posture, and efficient movement patterns. When the core is strong, the frame of the body is supported.

It also has a strong mind/body connection, so you may like it if you enjoy yoga but need a more intense core workout. Pilates is great for strengthening and toning the whole body top to bottom, focusing on using your own body weight to a achieve this. Therefore increasing your flexibility, lengthen and strengthening muscles. Pilates involves precise moves and specific breathing techniques.

Pilates is a physical fitness system developed in the early 20th century by Joseph Pilates, after whom it was named. Joseph Pilates called his method “Contrology”. All based on kinetic based movements using your own body weight to tone and define one’s body.

Regular practise of Pilates offers a wide range of health and fitness benefits. Improved posture, muscle tone, balance and joint mobility. Relief of stress and tension. Development of the whole body strength and flexibility, thus reducing injury and risk among sportspeople, elite and amateur alike.

Pilates is taught in a progressive and structured way, unlike many other exercise classes. You will progress over a 6-8 week course, whether you are a beginner, intermediate or advanced ability.

Pilate’s exercises can be modified in terms of the range of difficulty, with the intensity usually increasing over time as the body adapts.
